Today we want to take the time to make sure you’re hearing the human side of war. We’re bringing you a firsthand account from a Ukrainian who was born and raised in Kharkiv - a city the BBC reports is now facing airstrikes and shelling every night.

Roman Vydro worked as an engineer and business co-founder in Kharkiv before he felt forced to flee. Now he’s holed up at an apartment-turned-safehouse in western Ukraine and is determined to fight back any way he can. He’s sharing his experience during this war and about the horrors his friends are seeing on the front lines. He also explains why he’s never been prouder to be Ukrainian.
