Operation Varsity Blues: Fifty people, including celebrities, business leaders and college coaches, are now charged in a major college admissions scandal uncovered by the FBI. Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were among those arrested and charged with fraud. Dozens of wealthy parents reportedly paid a man named William Singer and others. Singer agreed to plead guilty and cooperate with investigators.

Measles Outbreak: At least 228 cases of the measles have been reported so far this year in the U.S. across twelve states. Public health officials blame the spread of misinformation about vaccines via the web and social media. Officials in Los Angeles are also cautioning travelers who passed through the airport late last month. They may have been exposed to the disease because of a sick passenger. Those who have not been vaccinated are most at risk.

Boeing Latest: The U.S. and Canada appear to be the only major countries still sticking by the Boeing 737 Max 8 planes: most others have grounded them. Regulators in the U.K. and E.U. have now suspended their use until investigators determine the cause of the two deadly crashes involving the model within the last six months.

Brexit Update: U.K. lawmakers gave a big thumbs down to Theresa May’s Brexit deal – again. Parliament voted against her revised deal just a couple of weeks before the March 29th deadline when Britain will leave the European Union. Lawmakers will vote again this week to decide if they should delay leaving the EU.

NFL Trade: The New York Giants are trading superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns in one of the most shocking offseason trades in recent NFL history. It comes as a surprise since less than a year ago, Beckham signed a massive contract with the Giants that made him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL at the time.

Uber Settles Suit: Uber has agreed to pay $20 million to settle a lawsuit six years after it was first filed. The big question is whether drivers should be considered employees (who are entitled to benefits and reimbursed expenses) or independent contractors. There are about 14,000 drivers who stand to get paid in the settlement, though it still needs to be approved by a judge.

WWW Turns 30: Happy birthday to the world wide web, which turned 30 years old this week. Of course, the internet itself had already been up and running for years, but the Web brought it all together with web pages, browsers and hyperlinks, making it easier to find and share information. Now, founder Tim Berners-Lee published an open letter outlining some of the problems the web faces in 2019, like hacking, online harassment and the spread of misinformation.

Microsoft’s Seeing AI: Microsoft is helping blind and vision-impaired users better explore the photos on their phones. The company’s Seeing AI app will now respond to touch. Users will be able to tap on a photo to have the app describe the object or person in detail.

Spotify & Hulu: Spotify and Hulu are teaming up again to offer a discount. Subscribers of Spotify Premium can now get access to Hulu’s ad-supported video streaming service at no extra cost. The promo lasts until June 10.

Chipotle Venmo Giveaway: Chipotle is giving away free money via Venmo. The giveaway is a promotion for Chipotle’s new loyalty program, Chipotle Rewards. The company plans to give away $250,000 to 25,000 customers per day through Friday.
