Guest: Mary Ziegler

Mary Ziegler is one of the world’s leading authorities on the legal history of the American abortion debate. She often shares her expertise with news outlets in the United States and around the world.

She is a 2023-2024 Guggenheim Fellow and Martin Luther King Professor of Law at UC Davis. Her fellowship will support research for a book on the history of the U.S. fight over fetal personhood that is under contract with Yale University Press.

Mary’s most recent book, “Roe: The History of a National Obsession,” was published by Yale University Press in January 2023. The book considers why Americans have been preoccupied with Roe even after commentators across the ideological spectrum criticized it and the law moved beyond it.
