Historic Space Launch with Hayley Arceneaux & Jared Isaacman

Listen below:

Tune in weekdays for 10-min daily news roundups:

Today we’re talking with two of the four people who will be making history later this year as part of the world’s first all-civilian crew going to space. Yes, that means no traditionally-trained astronaut will be on board.

First, you’ll hear from Hayley Arceneaux, who will be making history in more ways than one: she’ll also be the first child cancer survivor in space, the first person with a prosthetic body part in space, and, at 29 years old, she’ll be the youngest American to visit space.

She was chosen to join the mission by our second guest, Jared Isaacman. He’s the billionaire partnering with SpaceX to make this historic “Inspiration 4” launch possible. He’s also donating and raising millions of dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as part of the mission.

Guest: Jared Isaacman

Jared Isaacman is the founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments, the leader in integrated payment processing solutions. He is an accomplished pilot rated to fly commercial and military aircraft and is commanding Inspiration4, the world’s first all-civilian mission to space, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021. Named Inspiration4 in recognition of the four-person crew’s mission to inspire support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® and send a humanitarian message of possibility, the journey represents a new era for human spaceflight and exploration.

As part of Inspiration4’s public outreach, Isaacman made a personal $100 million commitment to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® in order to raise upward of $200 million to support the non-profit.

Isaacman also co-founded Draken International, which provides tactical aviation services for all branches of the U.S. Military, Department of Defense and global allied militaries. Isaacman holds several world records, including a Speed-Around-The-World flight to raise money and awareness for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. He has flown in over 100 airshows as part of the Black Diamond Jet Team, dedicating every performance to charitable causes. He and his companies are dedicated to supporting a range of charities.

Guest: Hayley Arceneaux

Hayley’s interest in space dates back to her childhood, when her family visited the NASA complex on a vacation. “I got to see where the astronauts trained and of course wanted to be an astronaut after that – who doesn’t?”

But a pediatric cancer diagnosis at age 10 put her
dreams of space travel on hold. Her experience at
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® not only cured her, but also changed her career aspirations. Now a physician assistant at St. Jude, she’s giving back to the place that saved her life as a child. In a journey that’s come full circle, she will be an ambassador for the research hospital on the recently announced Inspiration4 mission to space.

In addition to being part of the first all-civilian crew to travel to space, she will make history in another way, becoming the first person with a prosthesis to go into orbit.
