Migrant Families: President Trump’s latest effort to toughen immigration laws would mean migrant families can be held in detention centers indefinitely. Currently, migrant children with their parents can only be held up to 20 days, but the Trump administration wants to change that in an effort to deter more families from coming to the U.S. Critics plan to fight it in court, which could put the rule on hold. Trillion Dollar Deficit: A new report from the Congressional Budget Office says the federal deficit will hit $1 trillion next year. One reason is the new budget deal that increases spending, especially while the government is receiving less money after the 2017 tax cuts.

Tax Cut Reversal: President Trump changed his mind again about more tax cuts. He now says he’s not considering cuts to payroll or capital gains taxes since the economy is strong. That said, he’s still pushing the Fed to cut interest rates.

Saving Coral Reef: Experts are calling it a scientific breakthrough in an effort to save coral reefs from going extinct. Coral reefs from the Atlantic reproduced in a lab setting for the first time. This could be a big deal for “America’s Barrier Reef,” which is the third largest coral reef in the world. It’s right off the coast of the Florida Keys.

ISS New Parking Spot: The International Space Station has a new parking spot (sort-of). Astronauts successfully added a new docking port to the ISS yesterday, which is basically a place for another spacecraft to park and visit. Companies like SpaceX and Boeing are expected to use it.

Wristbands Predict Outbursts: Researchers are working on a wristband that can predict aggressive outbursts in people with Autism at least one minute in advance. It monitors heart rate, sweat production and more. The device is meant to give people a chance to relax the person wearing the wristband or at least make sure everyone is safe.

Instagram Hoax: Some celebrities have fallen for a viral Instagram hoax. The hoax claims you have to re-post a message if you don’t want Instagram to use every photo you’ve uploaded. It’s not real!

XFL Teams: The XFL is an alternative to the NFL, and it’s now released its eight teams’ names and logos, such as the Dallas Renegades, Los Angeles Wildcats and New York Guardians. The XFL is re-launching in February 2020 - a week after the NFL’s Super Bowl.
