It’s that time of year when students are putting serious thought into where they might want to go to college. One tool many use? College rankings lists. But this year, there are new questions and criticisms surrounding these highly-influential lists after it came out that Columbia University submitted inaccurate information to U.S. News and World Report. 

We’re getting insight from an expert on higher education. Josh Wyner is the founder and executive director of the College Excellence Program at the Aspen Institute, where he leads the nonprofit’s higher education reform efforts. He’s sharing his thoughts on the value of college rankings and even whether college is worthwhile today at all.

Josh Wyner leads the central higher education reform effort of the Aspen Institute, where he also serves as a Vice President. He is the founder and executive director of the College Excellence Program, which aims to advance higher education practices, policies, and leadership that advance excellence and equity in student outcomes. 

Josh has spent the past two decades initiating organizations aimed at improving and equalizing educational outcomes. He has authored numerous publications about education, including a book, “What Excellent Community Colleges Do: Preparing All Students for Success.”
